Badminton IG’s (F) first medal in the POL-ITE 2009/10 Badminton Championships!

Badminton (F) made Republic Polytechnic (RP) proud by clinching second place in POL-ITE 2009/10 Badminton Championship. The girls fought hard and achieved a remarkable 4 wins and 1 loss.

There were 3 Singles and 2 Doubles matches that made up the team event. The first match was against Temasek Polytechnic (TP) and the girls were determined to do well so as to boost the team’s morale for the following games. Indeed they did commendably well by persevering despite lagging behind initially. Eventually the team’s hard work bore fruit, with a win of 3-2.

On the second day, the girls fought against Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) and emerged victorious with a score of 4-1. The third match was against Singapore Polytechnic (SP) and proved to be a tough fight as each match was nerve-wrecking for everyone. Despite the jitters, they put up a tough fight, resulting in the stretching of the match until the very last 3rd Singles event. With the score tying at 2-2, those who were not playing cheered their hearts out to support the 3rd Singles player. The final goal was the most exciting, resulting in a grand win of 3-2.

The last day was the concluding match, against Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP). There was a tremendous amount of pressure on the players, who were fighting for the first or second placing. The audience’s support never wavered, and the wild cheering before the match proved to indeed be very encouraging for RP’s players.

The girls fought hard for the title, but eventually lost 4-1 to NP. Even though it was disappointing to have lost the match, the team was honoured to have clinched the 2nd place in the competition.

The girls’ passion for the sport and drive during the game was the contributing force to their 2nd placing for POL-ITE 2009/10, which also RP’s first medal. The team is looking forward to the IVP Badminton tournament in 2010 and is confident that they will apply the newly gained exposure gained during the POL-ITE games to the IVP tournament. The team hopes to reach even greater heights in future games.
