Republic Rugby earned their first ever medal after finishing 3rd place in the POL-ITE 09/10 season. It was a gruelling month of rugby with Republic Polytechnic (RP) being the host and RP Rugby made full use of the home advantage.
The team entered the season, no longer a traditional dark horse but a serious title contender. At one point of time, RP Rugby was at the top of the table after securing 2 wins and bonus points from comfortable wins against Ngee Ann Poly and Singapore Poly, with scored of 38-5 and 32-7 respectively. However the team suffered the first defeat against Institute of Technical Education with a loss of 12-6 in a thrilling encounter. Despite the team putting its fullest effort, it was not enough to overcome a very structured ITE side. The match proved to be the hardest challenge in the competition for both teams.

With one more game to go, RP Rugby was given another chance to win the title. ITE lost their game against Temasek Polytechnic which put RP in a unique position. If RP Rugby beat TP in their final game and earned the bonus point (4 tries & above), RP Rugby would be champion for POL-ITE 09/10, a win without bonus points would put the team in 2nd place in front of ITE and a lost, 3rd place. The team went into the final game, keeping in mind what they wanted from the start of the kick-off, and that was to get 4 tries and above plus the first spot.
RP Rugby eventually lost the game with the score of 33-24. It was a game that kept all the spectators at their edge of their seat. TP was crowned champions of POL-ITE 09/10. The performance of the team throughout the season was
indeed a positive one as it showed how much the team
has grown throughout the years and proved that RP was no longer the dark horse.
The team would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for all the support and love received throughout the season.
