The Vietnam adventure race where the tough slopes and terrain served as good
training ground for the Republic Polytechnic adventure racers, who have been constantly training hard to achieve their goals and to do the school proud in the upcoming races.
On 22nd May 2010, four teams of two racers took up the challenge and went on an adventure race organised by Ngee
Ann Polytechnic named The Pinnacle. During the race, the RP adventure racers
were motivated to win. All teams completed the race and they achieved incredible results by the name of SBSO Awesome Republic.
The racers started off at VENUS Drive Upper Thomson Road and headed into MacRitchie
Trail (the red route on the map above) for a long run and completed some check
points along the way. These locations allowed the racers to have a feel of the
natural environment where they also got a taste of how an adventure is like by running across muddy trails and bashing through the trails where
they had to search for clues to pass the station.
After they exited the MacRitchie Trail, the racers ran across the King Albert Park to Ngee Ann Poly to complete the obstacles as well as the rest of the stations. The racers had to do mystery tests like word search and archery. In the school compound, the racers completed various elements such as the team biathlon, running elements and inclined abseiling. The whole journey was about 13km and it ended at Ngee Ann Polytechnic sports complex.
Three out of the four teams won the first few positions of the race. Jolene Lim (SEG) and Lin ShengDe (SHL) came in as the champions for the Youth Mixed Category with a race timing of one hour forty two minutes.
Yang JunHan (SEG) and Delon Chen (SIT) came in as First Runner ups while Alson Qua (SEG) and Lim KaiXiang (SIT) came in Third in Youth Men Category. Last but not least, Melissa and Felix came in Fourth in
the Youth Mixed Category.

With this achievement in one of the most established tertiary adventure race,
the adventure racers are motivated and are all ready to train themselves to
aim for greater heights and to make the school proud.
Do look out for the Adventure Racers in school and give them a big clap and
say “Well done!” However, the biggest wish for them is to see more people join
them and experience the adventures together.
