Sporty Holidays at Republic Polytechnic - SH@RP! 2010

The inaugural SH@RP! 2010 was held on 11 June 2010. It was a holiday sports event targeted at Republic Polytechnic (RP) students, staff and alumni; an opportunity for all Republicans to bond with one another through various types of games and competitions.

An estimated number of 368 participants, made up of members of the public, students, staff and alumni, took part in the event. With the assistance of different Interest Groups (IGs) and the participants, the event proved to be a successful one. Thanks to all IGs and volunteers for all their efforts and contributions!

Here are some highlights of SH@RP! 2010:

4-v-4 Touch Rugby

In a game of touch rugby, you need speed, awareness, agility and skills to be at the top. Republic Polytechnic Touch Rugby girls sent two teams to compete in the 4v4 touch rugby competition. Although they were competing against the boys, the girls played tremendously well and certainly deserved a win! Who says men are the dominant ones in sports?

5-v-5 Soccer

Soccer provides a great avenue for the students, staff and alumni to exhibit their hidden talents. As one of the most popular sports played in Singapore, soccer brings people of all ages, races and gender together. You might never guess that your geeky - looking facilitators would actually play soccer well! Shown above are some of the action in the 5-v-5 soccer competition.

Tchoukball

SH@RP!2010 was an opportunity for the Tchoukball IG to showcase their skills and at the same time, educate people to learn and understand about the game. If you do not know what Tchoukball is about, the pictures shown above are classic examples of Tchoukball at its very best.

3-v-3 Basketball

With all four competitions happening at the same time, it was a new experience for both organisers and participants alike. Participants were also able to enjoy other ongoing competitions during their match intervals.

Frisbee Try-outs

Frisbee has always been a game that people used to play during their past time. However, for the Republic Polytechnic Ultimate Frisbee team, it is a serious sport that is played with passion. Ultimate Frisbee is a non-contact team sport, played by thousands of people from all over the world. It is actually a combination of sports such as Soccer, Basketball, American Football and Netball meshed into an elegantly simple yet fascinating and demanding game.

Beats Encore IG was invited to exhibit their extraordinary talent in percussion. They delivered an absolutely energetic performance and the audience were truly overwhelmed and charmed by their skills that they could not stop asking for more!

Many thanks to the medics from Medic network for providing great service and assistance to the participants and also making the event a truly successful one!
