Diploma in Materials Science (R17)
Graduation Criteria
To graduate with a Diploma in Materials Science, you must satisfy the modular criteria set by the School of Applied Science. Most students should be able to do this within 3 years of enrolment if they are deemed to have successfully completed 5 modules, or its equivalent, per semester.
Modules at the Republic Polytechnic fall into three broad categories, as can be seen from the course structure. They consist of Core modules, Elective modules and Freely Chosen modules. To satisfy the requirements of the Diploma programme, you must complete all the compulsory modules and a specified number of modules from selected categories. These have been summarised in the following table:

There are 3 types of Core modules: General, Discipline-specific and Specialisation-specific modules. General modules helps you prepare the ground for generic skills such as cognitive, linguistic and entrepreneurial skills, as well as equip you with the foundational knowledge of culture, technical communication and personal development.
Discipline-specific modules focus on developing your knowledge of Materials Science while specialisation-specific modules are designed to deepen your understanding of the area within Materials Science which you have chosen to pursue.
You also need to take a specified number of Elective modules offered by the School of Applied Science, besides the Core modules. Elective modules are designed to broaden your understanding of the growing field of Materials Science, and help to complement your knowledge acquired from other parts of the programme.
Two of the thirty modules you can be freely chosen from the entire range of modules offered at the Republic Polytechnic. |
