Diploma in Micro and Nanotechnology (R30)

About the Programme

The semiconductor industry is a significant contributor to Singapore's electronics output and is one of the largest employers in Singapore. Currently, Singapore has twelve wafer fabrication facilities and twenty assembly and test operations.

In addition, recent advances in thin film technology have created exciting new opportunities. Thin film technology can be used for applications in many industries such as optical coatings, displays and information storage. This technology is also intimately linked with one of the key emerging technologies nanotechnology.

Programme Objectives

The Diploma in Micro and Nanotechnology (DMNT) provides you with the necessary skills and knowledge in this fast growing field of micro and nanotechnologies. It aims to nurture knowledgeable and enterprising young professionals who can apply their skills to meet the demands of industry. By the end of the course, you will be adept in the art of problem solving and will be effective learners in the ever-evolving arena of the high-tech industries.

The programme will provide a well-rounded education comprising both technical know-how and general capabilities. Discipline and specialisation-specific modules will equip our graduates with an understanding of wafer fabrication, thin film technology, electronic and semiconductor materials as well as emerging applications in nanotechnology. General modules will help you prepare the ground for innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship, as well as train you in communication and lifelong learning skills.

Career Prospects

DMNT graduates can look forward to excellent career prospects in the semiconductor industries, industries using thin film and coating technologies as well as emerging industries in nanotechnology. They can be employed as assistant or associate engineers in diverse areas such as product design and development, equipment testing, technical marketing, applications support and manufacturing.

Graduates may also choose to pursue further education. All our diploma programmes are designed to meet the requirements for advanced standing in local and overseas Institutions of Higher Learning (IHLs).
