Centre for Professional Development
The Centre for Professional Development (CPD) oversees two main portfolios:
- The Continuing Education and Training (CET) programmes; and
- The development of academic programmes in conjunction with partner universities and other institutions of higher learning.
The CET programmes offered are innovative in their flexible operational framework. The scheme is based on Learning Units (LUs) of 3-hour duration, conducted in a manner similar to a workshop. In this way, candidates are free to take up Learning Units as permitted by their personal schedules.
LUs may be taken on their own, or as part of a certification programme. Two levels of certification are available. A "Certificate" requires 30 LUs according to specified requirements, while a "Specialist Diploma" is awarded to those who accumulate 90 LUs.
LUs are mostly conducted in the evenings, but can also be held on weekends. Customised daytime programmes can be tailored and conducted for groups of employees, by special arrangement.
Other key features of RP's CET programmes are their use of well researched pedagogical practices including student-centred learning approaches, and strong links with industry partners to ensure relevance to current practices and the latest technological advancements.
The areas of technical specialisation addressed currently are biomedical sciences, engineering, infocomm technologies, educational development and enterprise development.
The CET scheme is supported by an online registration and administration system available on the Internet. Intending students can create their own account, browse through programme requirements and forthcoming LUs, and book and pay for LUs online using Internet banking or credit cards.
For further information on CET programmes, please visit the CET website.
The Centre also coordinates and develops academic programmes in partnership with renowned universities. These programmes cater to RP's more academically inclined graduates to facilitate their pursuit of higher education after their graduation from RP.
